Warm Wishes has had a very successful 10 years. We have handed out over 35,000 filled StreetPacks totaling almost 200,000 items to the homeless on the streets. We should all be very proud. I personally am proud to say I have been given the honor of receiving the, ”Jefferson Award” of San Francisco for my continued efforts with Warm Wishes. There will also be a TV special done by Kate Kelly from Channel 5 News around Dec 3, during Distribution Day 2005.

On another note, although the winter weather is already upon us, Warm Wishes 2006 is in a cutback mode. After the Tsunami hit last December we did not get one check. Not only did I send my own money to this devastating cause but so did everybody else. Unfortunately, as you are probably aware, that is the only month of the year that we ask for donations, consequently we slipped behind financially. On top of it all, the organization that promised to take over actually backed out in August at the last minute. This also made us cancel our bocce ball tournament, our only planned fund-raiser. Their reason could be because of their own financial issues brought about from some of the world's natural catastrophes.

All around the world, natural catastrophes seem to be at an all time high and the true fact is that everybody is contributing more than ever to all the various causes and the other fact is, the recent world needs has far outgrown the financial support. Even the Red Cross has now claimed to have concerns for the smaller local organizations because they recognize that they are receiving a record amount of financial donations, and rightly so, but they also know many local and small organizations are having to close their doors.

It is not only unfortunate for those on the street but also those that want to instill this type of compassion and thinking into the children and youth groups that have continued to support us. Children are our future. Our distribution has been cut back because of financing, so we need your financial support more than ever. Although there will still be a distribution day this year, the large scale of volunteers will not be needed.
